Rural Development and Organic Farming
The current reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in the European Union will change the way the EU supports its farm sector. In the future, the majority of subsidies will be paid independently from the volume of production, linked to the respect of environmental, food safety, animal and plant health and animal welfare standards, as well as the requirement to keep all farmland in good agricultural and environmental condition (“cross-compliance”).
The new Council Regulation on support for rural development by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) for the programming period 2007 – 2013 was agreed upon in June 2005.
