Statistical Reports from DG Agri / OFIS
In 2006 DG Agri published an extensive report about organic farming
in the European Union - Organic
farming - Facts and figures - at its organic
farming internet site. The report covers the year 2003 when at EU-25
level, the certified organic and in-conversion area covered 5.7 million
hectares and represented 3.6 % of the utilised agricultural area. Italy
had the most important organic area with more than 1.0 million hectares
(about a fifth of EU-25), followed by Germany, Spain and United Kingdom and France. The report provides detailed information about land use,
animal husbanry and marketing channels.

Furthermore DG Agri provides the database
of the Organic Farming Information System (OFIS). This database
contains:
- the import authorisations that the Member States have granted to
third countries (according to Article 11(6) of Regulation (EEC) no
2092/91),
- the authorisations to use agricultural ingredients that cannot be
found from the organic production method (according to Article 3 of
Regulation (EEC) N° 207/93 defining the content of Annex VI to
Council Regulation (EEC) N° 2092/91).
